UFC 300: 2 Weeks Away

We are officially two weeks away from UFC 300, the biggest and most anticipated event in recent memory. This card is so incredible that one post just won't do justice. Let me give you a rundown of what to expect on April 13th in Las Vegas.

  • 12 UFC champions
  • Fighter with the most fights and wins of all time
  • Fighter with the most bonuses of all time
  • Fighter with the most finishes of all time
  • A ranked fighter in all but one fight
That alone should tell you how great this card is but let me do a breakdown of each of the fights happening. I'll do most of the prelims on this breakdown and save the main card for the big post next week.

On The Prelims

The first fight of the night features two former champions who are both on two fight win streaks. Diversion Figueredo is eyeing the 135 lb. weight class and isn't too many fights away from a title shot. He beat Rob Font in his last fight and is looking to take down a fan favorite in Cody Garbrandt. Cody used to be an undefeated champion, but since his historic win against bantamweight legend Dominick Cruz, he has been on a losing streak. However, after 2 straight wins, a big fight against Figueredo was always in the cards. Figueredo is the big favorite, but an upset would start the night with a bang.

My pick: Figueredo by TKO

Cody Garbrandt winning the belt at UFC 207

Bobby Green is on a bit of a losing streak, but that doesn't take away how exciting this lightweight bout is between him and legend Jim Miller. Miller has been on UFC 100 and 200 so it only made sense he was asked to be on this card. He has the most wins and fights in UFC history and the 42 is not slowing down. He's on a three-fight win streak and has looked great in all of them. He's a favorite in this one and I think he can get the job done against one of the funniest and most personable fighters on the roster in Green.

I also hope Jim Miller gets his wish and gets to be introduced as "Jim 'Fucking' Miller" during his introductions.

My pick: Miller by U Dec

The second of three female fights will feature a future hall of famer in Holy Holm. She is towards the end of her career but has a huge test in front of her if she wants to make another push for the belt. Kayla Harrison is the UFC's new arrival and has been dominating the 155 lb. division in the PFL. Now she will look to take over at 135 lbs. in the UFC. One of the more intriguing storylines of this fight is how the weight cut will go for Harrison, but if she can make it look easy, I think she will make easy work of the older veteran in Holm. A win could give her a title shot in her second UFC fight since its currently such a weak division at bantamweight.

My pick: Harrison by TKO

Former bantamweight champion, Ajamian Sterling is officially making his move to featherweight after losing the belt in his last fight. He has talked about how hard the weight cut to 135 lbs. is and will now reside in a weight class that he believes is better for him. Sterling has had quite a great career and will look to push for the belt in a wide-open division. Across from Sterling is Calvin Kattar, one of the more fun fighters in the featherweight rankings. Kattar has a really good record and will look to start a win streak after his last one ended in October of 2022.

My pick: Sterling by U Dec

The last preliminary fight of UFC 300 features two light heavyweights who are both already in the title picture. Jiri Prochazka lost his last fight in an attempt to reclaim the belt he was once forced to vacate. He is known as one of the scariest fighters in the UFC and has had quite the career already. A win at UFC 300 could give him the rematch he is looking for and could rightfully deserve. His opponent is no cake walk as he is put up against Austrian 205er Alexander Rakic. Rakic is looking for a title shot himself and certainly would be rewarded or close to one after a win at 300. This fight will be very close and both fighters could use their unique styles to get a win. This fight speaks volume to how good the card is because it's probably the greatest prelim fight in UFC history.

My pick: Prochazka by Split Dec

This post covers the 5 preliminary fights that I'm the most excited for but honestly all 13 fights will be great on April 13th. I'll be doing a normal post next week that will review the main card and give some predictions.
